Sharon O'Keefe

Sharon O’Keefe's career spans more than 40 years of healthcare and executive experience, beginning with her career as a nurse and transitioning to executive leadership. Ms. O'Keefe served as President of the University of Chicago Medical Center from 2011-2020. As president she oversaw a $2.1B clinical enterprise focused on integrating the missions of patient care, education, and research. She currently serves on the board of Adtalem Global Education, Convatec Group Plc (CTEC:LSE), Hueman, and Artisight. She has recently served on the Boards of Apollo Endosurgery (NASDAQ:APEN; Acq. by BSX) and Vocera (NYSE:VCRA; Acq. by Stryker).

Ms. O’Keefe has dedicated her career to creating high performance healthcare organizations, engagement of patients as partners in their care and development of a culture that fosters creativity, risk taking and diversity of thought. Prior experience includes work as Senior Vice President for Operations at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and in leadership roles at Barnes-Jewish hospital in St. Louis, Montefiore Medical Center, and president at Loyola University Medical Center. She has served as Chair of the NIH Advisory Board for Clinical Research, and on the Boards of the Integrated Healthcare Association, the Vizient Academic Medical Center Network, and America’s Essential Hospitals. Ms. O’Keefe received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Science degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
